Overview

Everyone loves anamorphics with their cool highlights and bokeh… except match-movers, where complex distortions, aspect changes during focus pulls, and subtle mumps effects (hidden but not gone) are common.

Fortunately, SynthEyes brings serious tools to solving anamorphic shots:

Full 23-parameter anamorphic lens model—two versions plus two versions of a simplified 14-parameter model.

Advanced animate-at-keyframe parameter solving for jitter-free solves on focus pulls.

A direct frontal attack on mumps issues: anamorphic distance

solving.

We’ll work through each of these in the following sections.

Anamorphic distance is a property of anamorphic lenses and certain to blow your mind, once you see what it’s about and how it explains a variety of anamorphic effects. It’s a huge thing to now acknowledge; its effects can’t be removed by any 2-D “lens distortion”, because it’s a complete change to the basic perspective transform!

Note: Anamorphic solving is not available in SynthEyes Intro.
